Joe Peep's is my favorite pizza place in southern California. The pizza is tasty, messy, crispy, and greasy, the way it should be. The Blue Collar style has a thin crust; they claim that there are fewer toppings, but I've always found them to be the right amount. If you get the pizza with everything, then you get a giant mound of ingredients on top of some crust. The 6000 calorie special is the type of thing you'd expect to see on Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins, but Joe Peep's has been offering this pizza since Julia Child was the only chef on TV. The ambiance makes it the type of place that you might be hesitant to bring your spouse or kids who know how to read to visit. Not that this has stopped me from doing so. They encourage graffiti on the walls, and sometimes the content is PG-13 (primarily but not exclusively due to language). As somebody who lives and works in the 310 area code, Joe Peep's location in Valley Village is inconvenient, but if I'm near there or going through, I'll find an excuse to go there. The modest but great tasting food and atmosphere make it the best pizza place in town.
