I have been here before but it was not at the sushi bar. Met a very good friend here for lunch today. The sushi chef, Alex, was very friendly. Not just to me but to everyone coming in the door or leaving. It has been a long time since I was in a sushi bar where I was made to feel special and welcome. We asked Alex to fix us whatever he wanted, just keeping in mind that my friend is allergic to bivalves (clams) and doesn't like oysters. I, on the other hand, like everything. He started me with oysters on the half-shell with flying fish roe, green onions, and special sauce. They were delish! She got a tuna poke salad that was very flavorful with pieces of fish that were large and not a mush like some pokes can be. He then made us each individual plates of nigiri. I had expressed that I loved scallops so I got two different scallop nigiri. One had a small pat of butter and then he used a torch to melt and brown but not cook them. She got the same with salmon. There was albacore, hamachi, sockeye, and his special salmon eggs cured/brined in soy, mirin, and saki, not salted. That was amazing! I also got scallops chopped with spicy sauce and flying fish roe. It was my favorite. He did a great job catering to both our likes and needs. The whole time he kept up with the people coming and going. Just great! I will be back soon!
