The people at the Deutsches Historisches Museum recommended this cafe to us, since it was within walking distance. My friend and I walked inside and chose a table. We were ignored for several minutes, and when the waiter finally approached, he took our orders. I ordered in German and my friend in English. We ordered potato soup with bacon and my friend ordered an additional entree of pork with sauerkraut. After we ordered our food, we noticed that everyone ignored us. Other guests received their food and in particular, it seemed that better service was given to men than to women traveling together. We waited a good ten minutes before our drinks and soup arrived, and when the soup arrived, there was no bacon--only leeks, which we had not ordered. I caught the waitress (because our waiter was ignoring us) and told her it was supposed to have bacon, and she brought back a small container with the meat a few minutes later. We added it, tasted the soup, and found that it was barely above room temperature--completely cold. We sent it back and asked for it to be heated. They took it to the kitchen, reheated it, and about 7 minutes later returned. At least it was edible at that point. We finished our soup, but no one came to bring my friend her entree. At that point, we questioned whether our original waiter had even put the order in. We kept trying to get his attention, but he made no eye contact and continued to serve all the tables around us. Finally, we asked him if he had ordered the pork already (and we were ready to just skip it at this point), but he said, "Yes, the order is in" and then he walked away. A few minutes later, he brought the pork, but there was no sauerkraut--only Brussels sprouts, which was never what my friend had ordered. Again, we tried to get his attention, but he pointedly ignored us, turning his back on us, typing into the computer, and doing everything except find out if the food was good.
