It's amazing how mercilessly savaged this place is on Yelp. People hate the food, the service, the atmosphere, the attitude ..... it goes on endlessly. And yet the place is still open. I'm learning two things about Mt. Pleasant eateries. One, most of them (but not all) are seriously bad. Two, that the bad ones are either all money-laundering fronts or are being kept open by patrons (i.e., locals) who simply refuse to take their butts somewhere else. When an establishment finds they're losing their customers, they either up their game or leave. Either way, the culinary situation for the locals is better than before. Having said all that, Dos Gringos is a place you go to for ice cream. And it's very good. I don't know when our culture decided that an ice cream shop had to have 10 or 20 or 31 different flavors. But that was actually a cultural set-back. Why do we really need 31 choices in an age of attention deficit disorder. This place offers 8 or 9 on any given night, and the quality of the product is very good. They do cake or waffle cones, serve a generous portion of ice cream, and charge moderate prices. I can't account for all the stories about poor staff attitudes ("sassitudes" [as is sassy]) except that maybe the less time they spend making things they don't know how to make well, the better the attitudes will be. They can serve ice cream pretty well. So stick with that and you'll be a happy camper.
