Tranq room is a hip basement bar with interesting nonstop music being spun by the bartender. What makes it particularly interesting however is its menu with items from its sister cafe, Mughal (the best Indian restaurant in Kyoto). The chana saag is particularly good for vegetarians, and the masala chai is good. They also have nabe and pizza occasionally among their rotating specials. Tranq room is right in front of the Shinnyo do bust stop (heading towards Ginkakuji), and is a short walk from some nice temples (Shinnyo-do up the hill, Konai Kuradoni, even further up, and Nanzenji across the street and further south) as well as the Philosopher's walk. Makes for a perfect recharging spot in a sightseeing day, or simply a place to kick back and relax to good food and music in the evenings. It is typically open from noon to midnight, except on Tuesdays and on one wednesday of the month (check their website).
