Addy Siam is situated opposite the Bandara Resort in Koh Samui, Thailand. It is a small rustic, almost street restaurant. It is a place that the ordinary tourist diner, with standard requirements, would most likely not enter. It is a charming family restaurant where the husband operates the kitchen close to the street, whlle his English speaking wife takes orders and waits on the tables and other family members assist. The enticing menu is written in Thai and Russian and one gets the feeling that everything is fresh. The overall impression is of a genuine devotion to the cooking of delectable food while the setting is less important, Furniture consists of simple, heavy bamboo pieces and there is a regular bar. And the food? This is home cooking at its best with a clear Thai touch where medium means hot and hot means very hot and to underscore the preference for heat the waitress asks after a while "is it hot enough". On our second visit to Addy I ordered the same dory fish dish with garlic and black pepper (paper on menu, also translated into Russian with the Russian word for paper). I noted a difference from the first time we were there and made a remark about this to the waitress. Remarkably enough she remembered what I had order the previous time (stir fried not deep fried) and explained the difference. This is a place to go back to for good homely eating. We also noted that Addy provides classes for Thai cooking.
