Le Dune is an excellent if unassuming little pizzeria tucked away in folds of the beautiful Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa. It’s curators label it as a fusion of Italian and Arabic culture which, if you ask me, is taking the marketing blah blah a little too far – what it is, is a pizzeria in the desert. It’s actually more an all-round Italian restaurant which also serves pizza…in the desert. It never fails to amaze me how, where Italian food is concerned, our kids order exact the same thing wherever we go. Even our son, my hero of culinary adventure, only ever orders risotto. No surprises then that he ordered the Porcini Mushroom Risotto. My wife and I ordered a Pepperoni Pizza and Veal Cutlets Milanese to share while our young teenage daughter was only appeased after the patient manager assured her their Chicken/Mushroom Fettuccini was indeed the same Alfredo she loves. The food was all good but the service was better – actually it was excellent – warm, friendly, and super accommodating. I must admit that much of our satisfaction stemmed from the ‘happy, feel good’ buzz we had going as a result of our walk about the stunning Bab Al Shams grounds but let’s give credit where it’s due – these boys have a good thing going, their restaurant well worth a visit…even if you have to head out into the desert for it.
