I have never mistaken the Karama Shopping district in Dubai to be a haven of peace and quiet, but Woodlands Restaurant makes you feel you are in a sylvan garden of tranquillity. Maybe its the soft-footed waiters, or the time of day when I went there [around 2 pm - just a little after the lunch hour] but I found myself whispering my order to the silent man who loomed up at my table. And what surprised me even more was that my order was filled in literally 3 minutes! And I could see that other customers got the same silent, quick and efficient service! So if you want your South Indian meal fix without fuss or bother, this is the place to go to! Do not expect fusion madness, "Chinese dosas" and the like! What you get here is good south Indian food, at coherent prices and a dollop of gentleness that is lacking in most other Indian, especially South Indian, restaurants in this food-mad city! When your neighbourhood has more than a handful of restaurants offering similar fare, any thing to make you stand out helps! And I am sure that whenever I am in this area, Woodlands will be my choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Saravana Bhavans of the world have a challenger, at least in my eyes! Go there for the idlis, dosas, meals and yes, the filter coffee! And walk out feeling that all is well with the world!
