Far from the tourist restaurants of the historic peninsula, Maria's Garden(that's the name given) is located in an elegant part of the city, Akatlar, very close to the main street Nispetiye, the underground station at Etiler, and the chic shopping center Akmerkez. In the summer, the restaurant has a lovely garden. We've been there three times recently with family and friends. Each time feeling satisfied and content, we have decided to return for the next occasion. The food is similar to tapas, but larger in quantity and filling. What makes it different from the other restaurants serving "mezes" is that there is a wide selection of Turkish and Greek "tapas" that are simply fresh and delicious. Moreover, the head waiter and waiters are very attentive and polite as is the owner Ms. Maria, who visits each table welcoming guests and listening to their wishes.Since it was the Valentine's weekend, there was live music which included Turkish and Greek pop songs that one could sing along. Unlike other tavernas, the music WAS NOT loud so carrying on a conversation was possible. Before going there, booking in advance is highly recommended, especially during weekends and on special days. There is music one day during the week, but that has to be checked. Aside from "mezes" they serve meat and fish dishes which are delicious.Because we were there for the "mezes", which were plentiful and filling, we didn't want to have any main dishes. The fruit and a combination of dessert that we were offered was exquisite! In short, a friendly restaurant, excellent food+"raki", Turkish ouzo+ live music+above standard service=90 Turkish Lira per person! I just can't imagine a better way to enjoy a night out where decent locals go :)) Try it, it's worth the trip from the city center ;)) Enjoy!
