Perhaps it is the Latin food I'm used to getting in Atlanta that failed to prepare me for the real flavor found at Fonda. I prefer to think it is at testament to their desire to prepare quality food using great ingredients. Thanks to Restaurant Week, I took the opportunity try a bit of everything with my fellow travelers. Holy Guacamole (it was amazing)! The Spicy Blood Orange Margarita started everything off well. Then onto the first course chicken flautas. Just enough to taste and not too much to fill you up. For my main course, I went for the Carne Asada con Hongos. Cooked medium rare, the flavor of the meat, the sauce and the green beans married perfectly. Finally, a cup of coffee served with a French press and the budin de banana...banana bread pudding with home made whipped cream and a guava sauce. I needed the 12 block walk back to my hotel to keep from lapsing into a happy food coma. Being a small setting, I can imagine some people might not like the atmosphere. I didn't think it took away from the experience at all. It did make things difficult for the servers sometimes, but they still provided top quality service. I will definitely go back and recommend Fonda to anyone who happens to be in the area.
