Agree with both reviews written by Surathai and Sangkembara (below) that Mak Prok Seafood is the real thing, not the usual dumbed-down version of so-called authentic Thai food you get in so many restaurants in tourist areas. The food at Mak Prok was so good that I went back a few times my wife and two kids a few times during our week long stay at the J.W. Marriott in Mai Kao; we wanted to try the entire menu! As Sangkembara writes in his/her review, the Prawns in Tamarind Sauce is a real winner as are the Seaweed Salad and Pak Good Salad; the kids, preferring simple food, went for the chicken fried rice, Thai noodles and chicken wing dish and was a great hit with them. The restaurant has an English menu and pictures which makes it easy to select dishes. We also had a waiter who spoke English fairly well and was very keen and helpful. Bill for family of four came out to between Baht 1,200-1,400 per meal, so pretty reasonable by Thai seafood restaurant standards and great deal in terms of the quality of food. My only criticism is that the restaurant had only sea bass available as fresh fish -- which was very tasty -- but still I would have preferred more options for fish. If you are driving, getting to Mak Prok is easy as it is on highway 402 and it takes approximately 10 minutes from the J.W. Marriott. If you are coming from the North (i.e. from Phang Nga going towards Phuket town), you will see Mak Prok located right across the road from Nurool Ebadeyah Mosque and Makan Restaurant. Make a U-turn about 100 meters down from Makan restaurant and you will see Mak Prok on your left.
