We recently visited the North Rim and loved it. I had read about a cookout, which we had done similar things at other places before, and thought it might be fun. I noticed it had received several bad reviews but thought maybe the people had just gone on a bad day and decided to give it a try. Bad mistake. First of all the train to take us to the cookout site was late. Then there were so many people they had to make 2 trips which was an additional 10-15 min., which I understand if it is a small train that might be necessary. But seeing as it was already late, it just made us even later. My husband and I were the last ones in the buffet line. By the time we got to the food, all the brisket was gone and some chicken wings/thighs that looked baked(not appetizing at all) was all the meat left. There were plenty of veggies which were adequate however. I stood there for probably 10 min after the waitress said they had gone to the kitchen to get some more brisket. I finally decided to go sit down and start eating without it as everyone else was finishing and the show was starting. I went back probably 20 min later and there was a small pan of meat which I suppose was brisket as it did have barbecue sauce on. It was very tough. By this time I was so upset, I barely paid any attention to the show which probably lasted maybe 30 min. They sang about 4-5 songs and told jokes. Again, I was very disappointed in the cookout especially after paying over $60 for the 2 of us. Wish we had eaten at the lodge dining room as it looked nice.
