One of the cases where I really can't understand where all these positive ratings are coming from. Arriving at the vestibule of the place, the ambience looks very nice with all the wine shelves in the back, but the actual dining room almost looks like a canteen, with very little decor. The service was friendly and exerted, response times quicker than average (for Germany) because the place was mostly empty. The red house-wine was unfortunately clearly sub-par, which is disappointing in a Vinothek, that supposedly specializes in wine. The food was not more than average: Oily pickled vegetables, a flavorless, watery pumpkin soup and Spätzle lacking cheese. The venison goulash on the other hand only looked bad, the taste was actually pretty decent. It was the only highlight of the dinner: Nicely cooked, good sauce and good in combination with the fried Brussels sprouts. The biggest lowlight was the smell. The restaurant features an open kitchen, which is a concept that is getting more and more popular. But if you have a kitchen right in the middle of the dining area, than you should provide proper ventilation. Depending on what was being cooked, the fat in the air was almost burning our eyes. After we left the restaurant, our clothes and hairs smelled like we just spent hours flipping burgers at McDonald's. Don't dine in this restaurant in your favorite clothes - unless you want to wash them right away. Don't plan anything after dining here, other then washing your hair. The second lowlight came with the bill. I know it is about the location in central Stuttgart, but for the given quality of dining and food, this place is way overpriced.
