It was pouring rain and we were staying at the JR Kyushu Hotel in the station. We didn’t want to go outside for lunch, and we didn’t want anything fancy so we rejected the restaurants in the Amu Plaza complex. We explored the ground floor of the station and found lots of food stalls selling all manner of food specialties and a food court with even more on offer. We found this small stall that was selling Nagasaki Pork Buns (baozi). When they gave us a sample that clinched the deal. We went to the supermarket in the Amu Plaza and bought some beer and edamame, and then came back and bought four pork buns (and a few donuts from the nearby Mister Donut) for a picnic lunch in the hotel. We never had to leave the station and we stayed dry and had a good lunch. The pork buns were excellent. The men cooking them were entertaining and helpful in explaining the several options.
