Located somewhere along the Hachiman Canal (the address may not be exact) is a vendor selling something that looks like roasted peanuts from a distance. Curious, I made my way for a better look and found an elderly man roasting rice on a machine. It only cost 100, 200, etc. yen for a bag of roasted rice, so I figured why not try it? Plus, coming from Michigan and after living in Japan for a few months, I missed American cereal. The pongashi was relatively sweet without being overbearing and perfect for a snack to take along while climbing Mt. Hachiman or with milk at home. Also, the vendor was nice enough to give me an origami crane.
