When we walked in, it felt like we just walked into someone's kitchen. There was a very welcoming lady that gave us menus and seated us. She was also the chef, cashier, and also bussed tables. We ordered papaya salad and two types of curries. Wow! I felt like this meal was prepared by family! You can literally see her getting pots and pans and cooking up a storm, even for the other two customers that were in the restaurant. She ran everything. The fact that you can see her prepare your whole meal right before your eyes with all the ingredients is a huge plus! It doesn't get anymore fresh than this. The flavor of the food is also delicious with lots of thai basil and different spices. If you like spicy foods, this place is perfect! If you are uncertain of which curry to order, the green curry is a bit sweeter than than the yellow curry. But the yellow curry definitely has a more savory taste. That papaya salad is so delicious too, and definitely on the spicy side. I would come here again the next time I visit this island.

Hungry for lunch we did a quick internet search and decided to give this little Thai place a chance. We were glad we did. Hands down the best Thai Iced Tea we have ever had! We both enjoyed curry dishes and split an order of spring rolls. The food is cooked by a little Thai lady right there in the kitchen. She makeshift as it is ordered. No steam table holding pre-made food all day. The spring rolls were exceptional and freshly made with herbs and produce picked that morning. It is nothing fancy, but is Everything delicious. And you cant beat the prices!

This place is beyond good, as the saying goes; "It's GRRREAT" The food is fresh, portions are good, and MOST IMPORTANT...the food is "ONOLICIOUS" !!!! The location is a bit hidden in downtown hilo, but the search is MORE than worth it. I had the green papaya salad and my friend had the pad thai noodles, we shared and it was just the most delicious thai food i've had. We would ALWAYS go to sombats, but now, we go to SOMSAMAI STYLES !!!
