We love Sakura House. The staff is great. The food is splendid. You can sit at the bar (like a sushi bar) or at a table. The food is made right behind the counter/bar area. It is all served on sticks. It is Japanese fare and so tasty. There is something for everyone, from meat lovers to vegans. They grill the food fresh and you have a wonderful assortment of items to pick. They have grilled veggies or grilled veggies wrapped in bacon. The chicken balls are great as are all the meat items. Rice is served and is wonderful. The place is small and very friendly. Locals love it and most locals love travelers, so enjoy. It is a wonderful and unique experience.
My husband and I dined at Sakura House for the first time. Many of the dishes we had were delicious and interesting. The restaurant is on the small side, located in a strip mall in Marina del Rey. They have tables as well as counter seating where you can order skewers. The menu consists mainly of skewers and Japanese tapas. They do not serve sushi but do serve grilled rice balls which we did not order. Our favorites were the chicken meatballs (4 small meatballs on a skewer), quail egg maki (4 quail eggs wrapped in bacon on skewers), albacore sashimi with fried onion and a ponzu sauce (sashimi melted in your mouth), crispy spicy garlic albacore (this was fried and enjoyed by my husband), and the crispy chicken addiction. The cripsy chicken addiction was our favorite - small nuggets of chicken, breaded, fried, and dipped in a sauce. The wine is overpriced - $10 for a glass of house chardonnay. The food was a little salty for my palate. Overall, it was an interesting dining experience. Dinner for the two of us with one glass of wine was about $75 before tip.
I have been eating at this wonderful restaurant for almost 30 years, that should really say it all! Tasty morsels of meat, chicken and vegetables wrapped in wafer thin pork, cooked over imported Japanese charcoal. Excellent and such an authentic example of kushiaki cooking.
Avoided Japanese restaurants as I am not a Sushi person. Friend got me here and I was pleasant surprised. You can get food like, Asparagus wrapped in bacon, Beef wrapped in bacon, Jalapeno wrapped in bacon (see the trend here :-) ) or just plain chicken. You can also get sushi :-).. All well tasting and well prepared right in front of you.. a little expensive for the amount of food you get but as I said tasty :-).. I rate price as mid-range based on the amount of food you get.. but if you are not that hungry it is not that expensive I guess...
