We went to Greenwich V for an early dinner and not many outlets were open before 6pm. So we ended up in the Empire State since it was open. Pity the place was very quiet. We were surprised at the portion of the food and it reminded us of the US where portions are really huge. It was a great meal and we enjoyed the food as it was very tasty although we ended up really full.
We really enjoyed the flavour fries, the teriyaki chicken pizza and the baked salmon the forst time around. The quantity was generous and the food tasted perfect. However, the last time we went, the taste and quantity of the food dropped. The salmon was overcooked, not enough side serving of mash potatoes and the flavour fries really lacked cheese. I hope it was just a one-off incident and hope to receive the same taste and quantity as the first time.
Being adverse to crowds, I was pleasantly delighted to find the restaurant not busy for a pleasant dinner with my husband one weekend evening. We chose to sit right next to the glass panel at the front of the restaurant and it was a good decision as it felt like dining al-fresco in air-conditioned comfort. Food is reasonably priced and portions are generous. My husband tried the squid ink spaghetti while i had grilled salmon. Both were filling and satisfying. We also had the butternut squash soup as well as their seafood chowder. No complaints over the quality and quantity of the soups as well. The smoked salmon salad was a surprise as we had expected it to be salad tossed with just some pieces of salmon but it turned out to be generous big slices of smoked salmon laid neatly on the plate with some salad at the side. We were so full afterwards that we had to skip dessert! As OCBC cardholders, we enjoyed a 10% discount for the cost of the meal. Like almost all other restaurants in the same complex, Empire State offers lunch specials, which are usually quite good deals, during week days . Greenwich V, where the restaurant is located, is a small complex with limited carpark lots. If driving there during busy periods though, free valet parking is available; so this takes the stress out of trying to find a parking lot. Just stop your car in front of the valet attendants who will be stationed just before the barrier of the entrance to the carpark. Collect your car keys at the basement carpark where your car will be parked. Tips are optional afterwards. Carpark charges - $1.34/hr
