Wanted some western food. Turned up at restaurant and no staff around. A cleaner ended up showing us to our table Service was very slow. Asked for bread and was told they had run out ( this is a five star hotel) Wine was poured and it was a thimble full Food was good though. But overall not a nice experience one course plus cocktail beer and one glass of wine £50
Location: in royale chulan hotel Cuisine: french Deco: a bit dated, need improvement Service: good n attentive Appetizer: French onion soup, too sour, may be the red wine kept too long n turned sour; covered wz puff pastry, not topped wz baguette n gruyere cheese Avocado n king prawn salsa: prawn is too bland, should at least sprinkle some sea salt n pepper or drizzle some balsamic vinegar; avocado n vege cube dressed wz light mayo only, not sour enough; excellent orange vinaigrett n quality balsamic on the side, but only few drops! Main: Cod fish: good quality n tender, crispy skin made d bite better; shredded cabbage dressed wz light cream sauce wz crunchy bite Wagyu beef: asked for medium well but became too well done, good brown sauce wz peppercorns, creamy n flavorful mash Desserts: Cream brulee: very tasty, not using vanilla pod but good vanila essence; creamy n smooth body; d caramelised sugar crust too thin Chocolate volcano wz vanilla ice cream: taste good but no wow factor, wished they can use dark chocolate; poor quality of vanilla ice cream For a fine dining-- value for money, overall food taste good but not wow
We stayed in Royale Chulan for two nights and had lunch at L' Heritage. The service was excellent, with great privacy and relaxing atmosphere for the entire meal. Soup, main dish and dessert were all above standard in the 5 star Hotel. The price - reasonable enough, about half of that in my home town (HKSAR).
